Sharma helps patients through their diagnosis and treatment plan. “As a nurse navigator, I guide patients throughout their cancer journey. I serve as their personal resource providing them with clinical information and education,” she said. Nurse navigators can also help patients with financial, emotional, medical, and physical health concerns while they receive care. “I’m there to provide them with the support they need and to provide them with information. We do have a support group too,” said Sharma.
Typically, patients with brain cancer will undergo surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy—treatments that can come with many side effects that a nurse navigator can help patients manage.
