No proper test has yet been developed for ovarian cancer, as research findings say that women who regularly go for these tests have equal tendency to die due to this disease in comparison to the ones who do not go for the tests. The screening tests available are inadequate to find the test. So, women should be well aware of the symptoms like abdominal bloating, feeling full quickly after eating, abdominal pain which can cause the ovarian cancer. Sometimes these tests even show false positive results due to which some women have to go for unnecessary surgeries.
Lead researcher Dr. Saundra Buys, of Utah Health Sciences Centre University, said annual screening for ovarian cancer did not cut death rates in women at average risk "but does increase invasive medical procedures and associated harms''.
Development of some highly skilled tests is the need of the hour as this disease is spreading and getting the screenings done or not does not make much difference in detection of the virus. In United States, this is amongst the five leading causes of cancer deaths in women. The problem is that the cancer is detected at an advanced stage after which the survival rate is very low.
