The latest offspring of the legendary Call of Duty franchisee, Modern Warfare 3, is working wonders in Australia. As per reports, video game stores all over Australia were filled to the rafters, with thousands of people throughout Australia and the world going crazy go get themselves a copy of their favorite warfare game, the MW 3.
Due to overflowing sales, the game has shattered the box office, video game and book sale records within a period of just five days.
The game has successfully created a new five-day global sell-through record of over $US775 million ($776m), surpassing the earlier record of $US650 million which was filed last year by Call of Duty: Black Ops of Activision and the $US550 million filed in 2009 for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
The reports have been derived from Charttrack and the sell-through information for retail customer that Activision revealed in a statement.
While expressing their excitement regarding the record-breaking sale of Modern Warfare 3, Robert Kotick, CEO of Activision Blizzard said: “With $US775 million of sales of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 in its first five days, Call of Duty has become the first entertainment property in history to set five-day launch records for three consecutive years across all forms of entertainment”.
Right from the outset to till date, the legendary Call of Duty franchise has banked in excess of $US6 billion from all over the world, which has surely made Call of Duty one of the most precious entertainment assets in the world.
