The Lakeshore General Hospital is lacking in staff, however, there are huge numbers of patients being admitted on every day basis. Nurses at the hospital have been overworking to meet the needs of the patients but on Saturday evening nurses were reluctant of working as the hospital was over crowded.
As nurses at the hospital refused to begin the treatment, the emergency cases were referred to other hospitals. On Saturday, there were 31 patients in the emergency room. On Monday as well there were 48 patients on stretchers waiting to get treated. A patient told that she was made to wait for 16 hours in the emergency room to get treated.
Commenting upon the inadequate staffing of the hospital, the staff members told that the hospital is the victim of a vicious circle. They have told that people take jobs at Lakeshore, but after a while they discover the overcrowding and chronic understaffing and they leave which leads to understaffing problem.
However, hospital spokesperson said told that the hospital staff is adequate enough to treat 50 patients. There are about 15 vacancies in the hospital. Hospital is hoping to fill these posts by next week and is also planning to hold a meeting this summer to seek a long-term remedy for the problem.
