For a long time, international union of consumer and environmental groups were asking Johnson & Johnson to remove harmful chemicals from its J&J baby products and especially from its quite popular products, J&J Baby Shampoo.
It been two years now and finally they have agreed to phase out formaldehyde-releasing preservatives from its products, which includes baby shampoos, soaps and lotions.
The world’s second-biggest seller of health products said for them baby’s health is most important and if they are witnessing any problem or could witness in future then they would swap it with another thing.
New Jersey-based company, J&J has sent a letter to the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics in which they have clearly mentioned that in next two years, they would introduce same products without the harmful ingredient.
Though health advisors are after them for last two years, it was on November 1 when public-health advocacy groups blamed them for being partial and affirmed them to be ‘toxic shampoo seller’.
They assessed 13 countries and found Denmark, Finland, Japan, the Netherlands, Norway, South Africa, Sweden and the U. K., to be free of quaternium-15, chemical, which releases formaldehyde. While those countries, where harmful chemical products were sold were the U. S., Canada, China, Australia and Indonesia.
The campaign said, “Obviously, it is possible for Johnson & Johnson to make baby shampoo without formaldehyde, and that’s what the company should be doing in all countries”.
There is no doubt in the fact that J&J has started doing their efforts and now, not only in the US but also worldwide, the company has reduced formaldehyde products by 33%.
The Chief Executive of J&J, William Weldon, was found to be quiet specific about their company plans for introducing formaldehyde free products. In his letter, he mentioned that they have started with their plans, and also mentioned products, which have been re-introduced and which are in process.
