The night before a critical meeting regarding the strengthening of the Lokpal Bill, the government held a discussion session on strategy to decide what line of action the five ministers on the panel should follow on Monday.
The latest version of the bill outlines a provision that allows with office of the Lokpal to intercept phone conversations. Sources close to the bill have said that the government is likely to ask people of both political parties as well as representatives from other non-political organizations to provide feedback on the latest version of the draft.
The first meeting of the drafting committee, which is made up of five civil society representatives including Anna Hazare, had its very first meeting on April 16. The second meeting will carry a lot of significance in that it will be aired publicly and it will show the differences of opinion between leading political and non-official individuals.
Supporters of the movement Hazare is trying to start are taking noticeable action to raise awareness about their cause. Many were even lighting candles at India Gate in an effort to express their cohesion with the cause. One supporter said, "I don' think it is fair to simply sit in our drawing rooms and show support, which is why I am here".
