On Saturday, Governor Andrew Cuomo has reported that he would be signing a state law for banning the children’s products, which are treated with a flame retardant chemical that has linked to various types of cancer in the test animals.
“This new law will continue our efforts to protect children from potentially hazardous chemicals. For years, this product has been known as a potential carcinogenic and appropriately banned from children’s clothing, and it is long overdue that we extend these protections to other child care products,” says Governor Cuomo.
The products, which are banned, are baby toys, car seats, crib mattresses and strollers. These products are treated with the chemical commonly known as Tris. It was reported that this ban would be applicable to the products that are sold after 1 December 2013 and the violators would be fined with $1,000 per day.
It was found out that the U. S. Consumer Product Safety Commission have banned on the children’s clothing in 1977 after a study that has linked it to cancer. The chemical product was mostly used in the sleepwear. The chemical product, Tris contains polyurethane foam, which could be required for the flame resistance. These chemical products could be dangerous for the children as these products could harm them.
