Blackstone Group, Bain Capital Mulling Joint Yahoo Bid, says Report

There are media speculations that Blackstone Group and Bain Capital are mulling the option to buy Yahoo Inc for about $25 billion. However, there is no confirmation yet from any of the sides. It has also been said that the duo would be approaching Asian partners, including China’s Alibaba Group and Japan’s Softbank Corp, to make a bid for the same.

For long, the share of the company had been stable at $20 per share, and if this figures is quoted, then the worth of the deal is somewhat closer to $25 billion.

It has been known that Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba has long been trying to buy back a 40% stake gained by Yahoo, but will it go for this bid is yet not known. The company which has been battling tough competition from Google Inc. and Facebook in growing Internet ad market has been going through rough patch off lately.

“Alibaba Group has not made a decision to be part of a whole company bid for Yahoo”, said Alibaba Group spokesman, John Spelich, when asked about the media reports.

It has been known that the company had been mooting on this option since the time the Internet Company booted out its CEO Carol Bartz. So far, none of the directors have come out to confirm on any such option, Tim Morse, Yahoo’s chief financial officer, has been handling the responsibilities of the CEO. There are possibilities that new CEO is roped in for the same position.

There are others like Silver Lake Partners, Providence Equity Partners and Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co who are trying to get hand on the stake of the company. While the news has certainly raised hopes of the investors, shares of the company moved up by 6% $16.72 in extended trading.

Google’s Internet Bus Reaches Kolkata

Introduced in 2009 to serve large number of people in the region, Google’s Internet Bus project is on its newest way to educate and aware more people about the Internet.

After spreading internet awarness all over the country, including 11 states like Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, Google’s Internet Bus project is all set to enter Kolkata now. Moreover, the reports have also confirmed that the project will run through Uluberia on December 2 and will then cover some other regions like Haldia, Purulia, Asansol, Durgapur, Behrampore and Chandannagar.

“We had begun the internet bus back in February 2009 and now the bus will tour the state. We hope to create awareness about the internet as we believe that continuous efforts will enable the common man to utilize the knowledge”, said Google India Director Mr. Vinay Goel, who further added that bus is primarily targeting the first time users of internet, public places and schools.

In the recently started Google Internet Bus Project, the bus actually works with schools of the towns and helps them to learn more and maximum about Internet and its uses. The Google Internet Bus project is an initiative of Google India which aims to all the people aware about internet services and its uses by taking it into those regions of the country, where no one can even imagine. Latest, the project has entered West Bengal and will be serving the region for some time.

With help of the Google’s Internet Bus, the brains behind the project have been able to efficiently take computers and mobile terminals (all connected to the Internet) in the hinterland of India. Moreover, the project has also successfully covered 11 states and 130 cities so far by travelling 50,000 km.

China Supersedes US’s Smartphone Market

The Strategy Analytics, a research firm, has revealed that China has recently surpassed the US in the smartphone market. It has been revealed that the delivery and operation of smartphone in China market has increased by
58% in the third quarter of this year.

It is believed that a surge in the China’s smartphone market has occurred due to subsidies offered by operators like Apple. Moreover, lower price smartphones running on Google have also helped in boosting the Smartphone market of China.

Although the smartphone market of China has witnessed a surge, its shipments in the US have experienced a decline of 7%. Nokia alone shipped 6.8 million smartphones to China. Beside, Samsung shipped about 4.2 million smartphones in the China.

While commenting upon the progress of China’s smartphone market, Strategy Analytics Executive Director Neil Mawston said, “China is now at the forefront of the worldwide mobile computing boom. China has become a large and growing smartphone market that no hardware vendor, component maker or content developer can afford to ignore”.

It is for the very first time when China has overtaken the US in the smarphone market. China has gained the reputation of world’s largest mobile phone market as it has 952 million users. Moreover, its market is continuously growing. With the advent of 3G phones, it’s believed that the China’s smartphone market would witness more demand.

As the China has turned a powerful smartphone market, the international hardware vendor and component developers can not afford to ignore it. In the coming time it will be interesting to see as to how far the smartphone market of China grows worldwide. Moreover, it would also be interesting to see as for how long it continues to supersede the US smartphone market.

Samsung Google TV to Arrive in 2012

Samsung Google TV would hit markets by next year and company officials have claimed that their products would be different from league.

There are sure that their TV sets being different from their competitors would become an advantage to them and would give stiff competition to their opponents. TV Department President Yoon Boo-keun said he would not refute allegations that they were going to launch their TV this year, but they could not as their product was quite similar to Google’s TV partners Logitech and Sony.

But, the incident has not dropped Samsung’s spirits down and they have been working really hard to get their product in the market by 2012. There is no end to problems as now LG is also working out to introduce its new model before Samsung.

For now, Google TV comes out with union of Sony Corporation and Logitech International set-top boxes which gives its viewers freedom to access internet on their TV screens. They could access internet videos as well as ‘m’ number of websites and there is a treat for video game lovers as they could play any video game on their TV screens.

All the above features would be present in Samsung with some additional features as well. Some of them being Google TV-enabled Blu-ray player and there have been many other offers as well which have been kept as a secret and would be unveiled at the launch date.

Not only they will introduce a complete package, but are also working to introduce sleekest TV screen which would double the fun. Yoon said they have been through quite ups and downs but never gave up. There is no doubt that they still have been witnessing stiff competition but are also sure that they would sail through.
